As the drumbeats of war are getting louder and seeking to sell the American people on yet another war of choice with the cross-hairs pointed at the people of Iran, one should note that some of these drummers and those taking aim are claiming to be men of God and followers of Christ. In recent months, the members of the usual right wing manifest destiny crowd have been propagandizing the airwaves on both television and radio to paint Iran as some looming threat to global peace or more specifically peace in the Middle East. In fact, the American public saw the same exact media war-mongering blitz based on purposeful false and cherry picked intelligence data and outright lies to the American public by government officials who led them to believe that Iraq was involved in the September 11 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. Not only has the current immoral wars planned before George W. Bush ever took office and have cost the American people over 3,000 dead service members along with over ten thousand maimed or otherwise injured, it has also cost over one million lives of civilians in those regions.
It isn’t enough that the American public is bombarded with propaganda messages from political rags and networks masquerading as news outlets, they have enlisted the services of pastors, so called men of God who are making their congregations and pulpits readily available to these messengers of war. One such place of worship will be hosting Mike Evans the so-called journalist, writer and proclaimed “General in God’s Army” who will bombard the congregation with a message on how Iran is a threat to the American people and that now Iran and not Iraq is the central war on terror. On Sunday October 14 at 10:00 am, Mike Evans will be at the World Worship Center to discuss his New York Times best seller “The Final Move Beyond Iraq”. It is interesting that a Christian Church would print up a flyer that features cross-hairs in the word “MOVE”. This would suggest to any logical and objective person that he means to take aim at Iran.
Unfortunately there far to many on the far right who will misuse scriptures from the Bible to prop up their war mongering words to convince religious people that it is ok to bomb and kill anyone who does not agree with their Zionist message. Below are points taken from his “presentation”.
These are a few of his misrepresentations of the message preached by Jesus and his followers. For example, Mike Evans writes:
“In thinking through the reality of the present situation in the war on terror, the Iranian nuclear escalation, and the situation in Iraq the following observations can be made for each point covered in outline: ……….
II. The Reality of Evil: Making the Connection
This strategic plan is being carried out by a spiritual enemy. On the world scene we see men like Al Qaeda's leader Osama bin Laden, the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Lebanon's terrorist leader of Hezbollah, Sheikh Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. But the Scripture makes it clear that flesh and blood is not our true enemy. Because our true enemies are spiritual and not fleshly we cannot defeat them with bullets and bombs alone.”
Mike Evans is suggesting here that in addition to bombs and bullets that we need to pray.
The scripture taken out of context in the Bible is Ephesians 6:12 that states:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”.
As you read the following scriptures, you will see that the writer Paul is not speaking about fighting a physical enemy with physical weapons:
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
Paul is suggesting that Christians use the weapons of truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation and the word of God. Mike Evans instead misuses the gospel of peace to deliver a gospel of hate and does not denounce the use of violence in the form of bullets and bombs but instead suggests that they are not enough. This would be clear to any truthful and discerning Christian who studies the scriptures. Furthermore, if our enemy is spiritual then why does he give the names of real people?
“The Revelation of Evil: Exposing the Deceit
III. Our adversary is deceitful. Days before the 9/11 attacks, the UN sponsored a World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance. Hidden behind that grand title was a hate-filled attack against Western democracy in general and the United States and Israel in particular. Charges such as racism, slavery, and colonialism were leveled against these two democracies. Muslim regimes still using these practices escaped such criticism. No mention was made of the genocide in Rwanda or Iraq; no condemnation was levied against Iran’s use of children as mine-sweepers during the Iran-Iraq War; nor was there a mention of the suppressive regimes in Saudi Arabia or of Syria’s subjugation of the Lebanese people. The target of our deceitful adversary is readily identified: The “Great Satan” (America) and the “Little Satan” (Israel.)”
Is Mike Evans suggesting that those who sponsored the conference against “Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance” were also involved in the attacks on the World Trade Center? Mike Evans fails to acknowledge that these are indeed problems in the United States and Israel. He does not mention the proceeding conference which noted that the Clinton administration produced a misleading report that was four years late. The United States has long been charged with the Human Rights Violations before the UN dating back to the 1940’s. Nor does he mention that a scathing report produced by NGO’s within the United States was issued once again in 2006. Mike Evans like many so-called Christians like to ignore those issues as they are a part of the oppressive establishment that likes to claim that legislation like Affirmative Action is reverse discrimination. He also lies when he states that Islamic countries were not addressed when they clearly were. Does he mention the fact that Israel like Saudi Arabia, both US allies, discriminate against women? Does he talk about the ongoing genocide in Sudan listed by the US as a State Sponsor of Terror but allows American firms to invest in their economy? What about the hundreds of thousands of men, women and children killed by American bombs and private security contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan?
No what Mike Evans would have you believe is that the conference was all part of some elaborate scheme in relation to the 911 attacks that the FBI says it has no hard evidence that Bin Laden was involved. It is also interesting to note that a former CIA director Buzzy Krongard, accused of profiting from the attacks on 911, stated to the “London Times that bin Laden should stay free and it was better off for the world for him to remain at large”. Who else will the fear mongers central character and boogey man to stir up irrational hate towards those who practice Islam? Make no mistake about it; Bin Laden is featured in Mike Evans “documentary”.
The tool of fear is the number one tactic used to convince Americans that we must surrender freedoms and liberty and trust the government to protect us instead of relying on God. Perhaps they need to be reminded of 2 Timothy 1:7 which states:
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Any pastor that gives a platform to hate, lies and deceit, should be question on their commitment to the teachings of Christ. When they allow people to pervert the message of Christ as if He would approve of such war and fear mongering, they are in affect turning God’s house into a synagogue of Satan. The book of Galatians states:
“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
Calls to the World Worship Center to clarify their position went unreturned although an invitation to appear on One Black Man’s View internet broadcast was extended. If the pastor of that Church’s decision to invite a man who preaches a message of hate is one rooted in the teachings of Christ then he should have no problem clearly pointing it out in the Bible.
