Pelosi Hypocritically Calls Republicans Obstructionist

On Tuesday, July 31st, I received an email from Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) featuring Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi, one of the leaders of the Democratic Party. The subject line read “Stop Obstructionist Republicans” and while I may agree that Congressional Republicans have been engaged hypocritically in using the same procedural moves in Congress to block Democrat sponsored legislation, procedural moves they complained about when they held the majority. I do not agree that Nancy Pelosi is the best person to be delivering this message. From the start of her election to Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi has been engaged in obstructive behavior on a number of issues that clear majorities of Americans support including Impeachment hearings. Start with her prejudicial statement that “Impeachment is off the table” which again was stated after her promotion to Speaker of the House, to her latest obstruction of a new and truly independent investigation of the crimes leading up to the 911 attacks being called for by members of Congress.

While serving as minority leader back in 2006, Nancy Pelosi told caucus members in a closed door meeting held in May, “that impeachment is of the table” and that she “is not interested in pursuing it,” Her thinking was she did not want to make it a rallying point for Republicans to remain control of the House. While I may agree with not making it an issue during the campaigns, I do not agree with not taking action on it after you have gained the majority after the elections. The Democrats have constantly told us about numerous crimes committed by the Bush Administration ranging from lying us into a war, Constitutional violations, Geneva Conventions violations, violations of US Law, violations of the FISA act, unaccounted for billions of dollars in Iraq and numerous other issues. The list of crimes of this administration far surpasses those of every proceeding administration official ever consider for Impeachment.

Nancy Pelosi spoke with a group of bloggers on June 28 with one of the issues they discussed was accountability. Dave Johnson of Seeing The Forest stated to Mrs. Pelosi,

“We seem to be at a historic time right now with an administration that is starting to frankly assert that they are above the rule of law, and I’m wondering if you as Speaker can give us a short statement on this issue and what Congress is prepared to do to re-assert the rule of law of the people of the country.”

While she was asked for a short statement, Nancy Pelosi went into this long spiel citing that the Democrats are building a record, rightly accused the previous Republican Congress of failing to provide oversight and accountability of the Bush administration,

“for six – almost seven – six and a half years, with no oversight. Just absolutely zero accountability, no oversight.”

While Democrats may have tried to provide a small measure of oversight by way of hearings on less serious matters as the US Attorney firings, I have failed to hear of them offering an ideal of what they consider accountability accept that of winning the White House. Going back to the issue of oversight, in her conversation with bloggers, Mrs. Pelosi states:

“What we said last year during the campaign – for the whole of 2006 what we said “Corruption, Cronyism and Incompetence”. And that’s some of this unint… Corruption. It’s not just the corruption; this personal aggrandizement that were guilty of, it was the corruption in terms of the governmental process. And they… it’s stunning. It really is stunning. And on many of these things, you have to build a record so that the public sees what it is. And I think that some of our people, Mr. Waxman in particular because he has the committee – The Government Reform and Oversight Committee – has done a spectacular job and I think you might share that assessment of what he has done.”

Mr. Waxman, spectacular job? Is she speaking of the same Henry Waxman who at this moment is participating in a cover up of massive proportions? Is she speaking of the same Henry Waxman who sat behind closed door hearings and heard damning evidence about members of the State Department, other government officials and prominent families within the United States involvement in drug smuggling, money laundering and the sale of nuclear arms to terrorist? Yes, she is speaking of the same Henry Waxman who apparently feigned outrage at hearing the full-classified details of the case about former FBI Translator turned FBI Whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, which was backed up by the Department of Justice’s Inspector General Report. Republicans such as Senator Charles Grassley also deemed the evidence presented credible. Some of the names involved in this outrageous case involve Richard Pearle, Dennis Hastert, Douglas Feith, and Marc Grossman along with two unnamed Democrats in Congress. We are talking bipartisan corruption and treason and it could be that at least two Democratic Presidential candidates right now may be involved. Considering how Neo-Con hawkish and pro-Israeli Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama are, one has to wonder if they possibly could be the two Democratic Party unnamed persons of interest. This case involves high-level officials passing government secrets to both the Turkish and Israeli Governments. We are talking spying and high treason. We are talking about drug rings involving US Agencies that the Iran/Contra scandal of the eighties only gave us a glimpse of the corruption in our government pertaining to the fake War on Drugs campaign. Yet for all the evidence concerning all of this criminal corruption, the Democrats and Mrs. Pelosi have done nothing to address these matters but have been willing participants in covering it up and distracting us with lesser issues such as lobbyist reform containing loopholes and investigations into political firings of US Attorneys. Sibel Edmonds was promised open hearings on these matters of National Security five years ago and as of yet we have not heard from Waxman nor Pelosi on these issues. I would call their failure to hold these hearings clear obstructionism.

Let’s move on to Madame Speakers latest obstruction of a new 911 investigation that would have panel members not related or tied to the Bush Administration or other parties with conflicts of interest. Not only does a clear majority of Americans not believe the official version of events endorsed by the 911 Commission report but also over 70 million of them demand new investigations. A clear majority of earth’s inhabitants do not believe the yarn spun by a commission that accepted testimony from key government officials who refused to testify under oath. Bush and Cheney insisted that there being no written record of their testimony and that they appear together before the commission side by side assumedly to keep their stories straight. Then we have WTC Building 7, which was not hit by aircraft, crashing into its own footprint and not one word about an entire building collapsing is no where to be found in the 911 Commission Report. When asked recently about new 911 investigation, Pelosi reportedly stated,

"No, no, no".

When asked about the unexplained collapse of WTC Building 7, she stated,

"We'll make sure that nothing else happens."

Considering her obstructionist role in blocking Impeachment hearings, not even mentioning Sibel Edmond’s case and now the expressed intent to obstruct calls for new 911 investigations, I am not one to trust Pelosi or her judgment on these matters.

If Americans want to truly clean up government corruption, to restore our Republic to its Constitutional foundations, it is clear we must be active in record numbers in calling for hearings and real investigation into all of these issues. We must vote in record numbers in the coming elections to remove all obstructive politicians be they Democrats, Republicans and those in-between. One has to be led to the conclusion that the obstructionism by Pelosi and other Democrats is directly related to their hopes to grab the executive Branch with the unconstitutional power grab by the Bush Administration left in place for them. It is my hope that her constituents in her district will strongly consider whoever opposes her seat in upcoming elections. No American citizen in his right mind with true love for our country and a sense of justice can let politicians get away with this especially when so many of us are imprisoned for petty crimes while these criminals and obstructionist get to move on to bigger and better things.
